All carers approved by Futures for Children will have undertaken
preparation training in groups that will include the opportunity to meet
experienced foster carers. Once approved, carers participate alongside staff
and sessional workers in our comprehensive training programme provided both in
house and externally. More experienced foster carers are supported to undertake
NVQ courses. Recent training sessions provided by Futures for Children include:
• First Aid
• Safer Caring
• Child Protection
• Preparing Young People for Independence
• Valuing Diversity
• Life Story Work
• Managing Challenging Behaviour
• Introduction to our Therapy Service
Futures for Children also provide support groups either at a central location
or locally in carers’ homes. These are available to all foster carers at
regular intervals throughout the year.
